A child, family, and couples therapist with over a decade of experience, Hope Kelaher provides cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), emotionally focused therapy (EFT), and trauma-focused CBT in her private practice in New York City. Hope Kelaher has a background in clinical and administrative supervision at various mental health institutions.
Ms. Kelaher obtained her bachelor's degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University and her master's in social work from Columbia University School of Social Work. From 2012 to 2020, she completed two clinical externships at The Ackerman Institute for the Family, in couples and family therapy and emotionally focused couples therapy.
Ms. Kelaher's first experience in the mental health space was as a senior case planner at The Children's Aid Society. In this role, she co-facilitated a parenting journey group that assisted parents in successfully raising their children. Among her other notable work experiences, she spent four years as an assistant director and clinical supervisor at The Mental Health Association of New York and two years as a clinic associate at the Ackerman Institute for the Family.
Hope Kelaher is skilled at counseling culturally diverse families and non-traditional couples with relational issues, helping trauma survivors, and aiding individuals affected by domestic violence. She is trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), Imago therapy, and somatic therapy. She's also the author of Here to Make Friends: How to Make Friends as an Adult.
